John Chauncey Hayes letters to W.F. Bliss, 1909 March

Two letters containing biographical information on his father, Benjamin I. Hayes. Bliss' thesis for the University of California Berkeley was titled "Report on the Hayes papers in the Bancroft Library with special reference to the attitude of the native Californians towards statehood." Hayes was a California lawyer, first judge of the Southern District of California, and a collector of historical information about early California.
